Adobe’s AI Updates

Adobe MAX 2024 unveiled some new updates for video editing, with Adobe Premiere Pro at the forefront. Plus, they revealed a new Firefly Video Model in beta.

What's New in Video

Generative Extend, powered by the Firefly Video Model, allows editors to seamlessly extend video clips and smooth out transitions with AI-generated frames (we got a preview of this with Meagan Keane back at NAB).
Performance upgrades in Premiere Pro include tripled export speeds and a new context-sensitive properties panel for more efficient editing.
A beta version of a new color management system offers higher fidelity, consistent color, and automatic transformation of log footage into HDR and SDR.
Over 100 new features were introduced across Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Express.
Frame.io Version 4 became generally available, offering improved workflow management and collaboration tools for creative teams.

Firefly AI

The Firefly Image 3 Model now generates images four times faster and offers improved understanding of complex prompts.
Enhancements to the Firefly Vector Model provide designers with greater creative control in Adobe Illustrator.

AlexPearce3D Launches First Product, LED Stage Configurator

A new Blender add-on developed by Alex Pearce, LED Stage Configurator, is simplifying the process of creating 3D models for LED stages, making it easier for technical artists to set up projection mapping without the need for extensive 3D modeling expertise.

Behind the Scenes

The add-on features a user-friendly UI, allowing users to quickly create custom LED walls without prior knowledge of Blender.
It includes a drop-down menu with popular LED brands, streamlining the selection process.
LED Stage Configurator automatically UV unwraps the 3D model, saving time and ensuring accuracy.
The tool enables easy alignment of the LED wall with photogrammetry scans, enhancing the overall setup process.

According to the creator, Alex Pearce, the add-on is designed for "virtual production supervisors, LED technicians, manufacturers, and integrators who are looking for a simple way to automate building 3D models of LED stages."

This is Pearce’s first product launch since he announced that he’s launching two new companies, AlexPearce3D and Sim-Plates.

CoPilot, a cutting-edge, global production studio specializing in innovative XR virtual production solutions, released a guide to help production teams choose the right LED tiles for virtual production.

Key Specifications to Consider

Pixel pitch: Distance between pixel centers, measured in millimeters. Popular choice for VP is 2.3 - 2.6mm.
Resolution: Visual dimensions of the display in pixels. Lower pixel pitch means higher resolution.
Brightness: Measured in nits. Standard is 1500 nits, but most scenes only require 300-700 nits.
Refresh rate: How often the image updates per second. 7640 Hz is standard for VP, allowing 60 FPS shooting.
