How BIOLANDS builds a consistent world with AI
A video popped up on the r/aivideo subreddit a few weeks ago titled BIOLANDS. It was an AI-generated teaser trailer for a sci-fi series.
Dozens of AI videos (especially fake movie trailers) pop up every day. But what stood out about this one was the consistency of each shot. From backgrounds to characters to costumes - every generated shot felt like it all came from the same world.
We spoke to the creator, Aze Avora, about the series and how he put it together.
The Project
Aze: Since I was 6, my friends and I have been making all sorts of little videos and short films throughout the years. We had a dream to make an epic sci-fi series together but we lacked the resources. We made a live-action version of BIOLANDS back in 2014 that did relatively well, but it didn’t quite capture the sense of scale & ambition we had in our heads. The writing was restricted by our resources.
I continuously pursued the series by learning Unreal Engine & other 3D programs in hopes of bringing the image to life. However, when Midjourney & AI generative art came out, I knew it would be the path to making Biolands a reality.
Seeing Midjourney, I couldn’t believe that AI could do that, and I believed at that point that it would evolve into cinema-level quality. So I continued to write the story based on how I always envisioned it. Without restrictions or limitations, knowing that AI was evolving every single day.
How He Put it Together
Aze: To make the trailers & concept videos, I used a collection of my saved concept art from Unreal Engine & Midjourney. I then fed it into Runways GEN-2, which had a recent update that adds movement to your image. It’s not perfect, but it’s unbelievable that this has been achieved so quickly!
Keeping shots consistent
Aze: It was a collection over the past year of images and concept art I had saved up. It can take a while to get the look you want. So going through a concept art phase with Midjourney and brainstorming different styles over time can really help you decide your final look. With this, I could feed it to the AI Video generator and they would all look consistent.
