Blackmagic Cloud Sync: Edit Footage As It's Recorded

Blackmagic Design has unveiled a new cloud sync feature that allows editors to work with footage as it's being recorded, enabling real-time remote collaboration between camera operators and post-production teams.

Behind the Scenes

  • The cloud sync feature works with various Blackmagic cameras, including the Cinema Camera 6K, URSA Broadcast G2, and soon, the URSA Cine and PYXIS models.

  • Users can also record footage using the Blackmagic Camera app on iPhones, with Android support coming soon.

  • As the camera records, proxy files are automatically uploaded to the user's Blackmagic Cloud account, allowing editors to access the growing clip within DaVinci Resolve.

  • Editors can load the clip into the viewer and start working on the footage while it's still being recorded.

  • Sarah Jones from Blackmagic Design explains, "You can basically get those proxies going to your editorial team to start working with while you're still recording the files."

  • Camera connectivity is achieved through built-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or by tethering a phone to the camera. USB to Ethernet dongles can also be used for hardwired connections.

Final Take

The new cloud sync feature from Blackmagic Design is set to revolutionize remote collaboration in the film and video production industry. By enabling editors to work with footage in real-time as it's being recorded, this update streamlines the post-production process and allows for faster turnaround times.

As remote work continues to be a necessity for many productions, tools like Blackmagic Cloud are becoming increasingly essential for efficient, collaborative workflows.
