STAGE A

The 5 AI & AR Companies Going to Disney

Disney just announced the five new companies accepted into the 10th Disney Accelerator program. They all involve either AI or AR.

“The Disney Accelerator allows us to continue this legacy of innovation and the responsible use of technology in service of storytelling…” says Bonnie Rosen, GM of the Disney Accelerator.

Here’s who’s going to Disney World The Disney Lot in Burbank:

  • AudioShake: AudioShake utilizes AI to break down sound recordings into individual components and stems, enabling interactive, customizable, and accessible audio experiences.

  • ElevenLabs: ElevenLabs specializes in voice technology research, focusing on creating highly realistic AI speech software for publishers and creators.

  • Nuro: Nuro harnesses AI and machine learning to develop autonomous vehicles dedicated to generating revenue through food, grocery, and package delivery services.

  • PrometheanAI: PrometheanAI offers a range of tools for creating virtual worlds and managing digital assets, all accessible through natural language commands.

  • StatusPro: StatusPro integrates sports data with augmented and virtual reality technologies to offer a range of immersive training and gaming solutions

Past companies in the accelerator include Epic Games (which Disney just invested $1.5 billion into) and Kahoot!.

The program provides companies with investment capital, access to co-working space at Disney’s creative campus, and mentor support and guidance from top Disney executives.

The program concludes with a Demo Day in the spring at the Disney lot in Burbank.

Learn Virtual Production with RIT at Synapse Studios, LA

As our industry pushes the boundaries of virtual production techniques (think Disney’s The Mandalorian and Marvel’s Avenger films), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is opening the door for people like you to earn their spot on tomorrow’s set.

And they’ve started by tapping Hollywood's leader in VP, Synapse Virtual Production, as their partners for an exclusive learning experience.

This 10-day immersion will take place in Los Angeles, in June 2024 at Synapse Studios where students will work with the same technology and set as award-winning directors, cinematographers, producers, and more.

Co-taught by Professor David Long and other members of RIT’s MAGIC Center, a world-class digital media research and production facility, the course will provide the latest training in experiential elements for virtual production (VP).

In just two weeks, the course will train students in foundational skills of Virtual Production, which involves hands-on filmmaking, 3-D graphics, computational photography, and real-time engine rendering. An opportunity like this will jumpstart their careers and fill the demand for qualified talent across virtual production crews.

The first immersive course will take place this summer June 10-14 and June 17-21, 2024.

Space is limited, hurry to gain your spot on set before it’s gone!

To learn more about the course and to enroll, visit RIT’s course page here.

SECOND UNIT

Tyler: Let’s Talk Virtual Production

We’re not a breaking news publication, so you probably already saw the Hollywood Reporter interview with Tyler Perry saying he was putting his $800 million Atlanta studio expansion on hold after seeing the quality of OpenAI’s Sora.

The thing is, his reasons don’t make the most sense.

Here’s the big quote that stood out when asked what he was shocked about most with its capabilities:

I no longer would have to travel to locations. If I wanted to be in the snow in Colorado, it’s text. If I wanted to write a scene on the moon, it’s text, and this AI can generate it like nothing. If I wanted to have two people in the living room in the mountains, I don’t have to build a set in the mountains, I don’t have to put a set on my lot. I can sit in an office and do this with a computer, which is shocking to me.

This use case sounds like a better fit for virtual production - and you can already do this.

Want to be on the moon or an alien planet or the mountains? Just type a prompt into Cuebric or Blockade Labs.

Tyler’s already got an LED wall at the entrance of the studio - just move it inside.
