Welcome back to VP Land!

Apple is rolling out its own AI integrations into the next version of iOS. But the keynote ended up with a big cinema teaser—a shot of a new camera from Blackmagic.

Blackmagic later posted more details: the URSA Cine Immersive, a new camera for shooting Apple Immersive Videos for the Vision Pro.

We’ll have a longer breakdown in the next issue.

For now, let’s jump into the State of VP and Cine Gear.

Vu’s Virtual Production Predictions: Smaller Stages, More Industries

Vu has released a white paper detailing the current state of virtual production and the emerging trends for 2024.

The report reveals a shift towards smaller, more accessible studios, with the median size decreasing by 29% since 2021.

This trend, along with advancements in hardware and all-in-one solutions, is driving the adoption of virtual production among a wider range of content creators.

3 Key Takeaways

1. Small Studios, Big Impact

The median virtual studio size in 2024 is 6m wide x 3m tall, a 29% decrease from 2021. This trend towards smaller, more accessible studios is making virtual production more feasible for a wider range of content creators.

2. Transitioning to All-in-One Solutions

The industry is shifting from complex, independent systems to accessible all-in-one solutions. This transition is enabling mainstream market adoption, similar to the "early majority" stage in the technology adoption lifecycle.

3. Projected Industry Growth

The virtual production industry is projected to reach $8 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 18.27% from 2024 to 2030. This growth is driven by the expanding use cases and the increasing accessibility of virtual production technology.
