Final countdown for 2024. But AI news hasn’t slowed down. A lot of generative 3D updates - I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of this next year. Plus LDI is happening next week, already getting a few updates in the VP world for panel upgrades.

In this issue - Arri dropped a new camera, World Labs teased a 3D world generator, and a deep dive into Luma’s big update to Dream Machine.

World Labs teased an exciting demo - turning a single 2D image into a navigatable 3D space.

Behind the Scenes

The technology converts a single 2D image into a navigable 3D environment
Users can explore approximately an 8-foot diameter circle around the original image perspective
The system generates missing information outside the original 2D frame
Depth maps are used to determine 3D layout, while AI fills in unseen areas
Camera effects like depth of field and dolly zoom can be simulated in the 3D space
The tool works with both AI-generated images and real photographs
Users can apply various visual effects that respect the 3D geometry of the scene

The 265: Arri’s New 65mm Digital Cinema Camera

ARRI has introduced the ALEXA 265, a new-generation 65mm camera that addresses user feedback from its predecessor, the ALEXA 65.

This compact camera combines a small form factor with a revised 65mm sensor, offering improved image quality and easier handling.

The Breakdown

The ALEXA 265 is one-third the size and weight of the ALEXA 65 (3.3 kg vs. 10.5 kg)
It features a revised 65 mm sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range and enhanced low-light performance
The camera uses the same LogC4 workflow and REVEAL Color Science as the ALEXA 35
A unique in-camera filter cartridge system allows for easy filter changes
The camera body is only 4 mm longer and 11 mm wider than the ALEXA 35, despite housing a sensor three times larger
The new sensor increases sensitivity from 3200 to 6400 EI (ISO/ASA)
It records ARRIRAW to Codex Compact Drives, compatible with standard readers and Codex HDE
