Let’s jump into it!

MAIN STAGE

YouTube Goes Big on AI-Powered Creator Tools

YouTube unveiled a slew of AI-driven tools at its annual "Made on YouTube" event, signaling a significant transformation in how creators conceptualize and produce content.

The platform is harnessing the power of generative AI to not only streamline video production but also to amplify personalization.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dream Screen: A highlight among the announcements, Dream Screen will allow creators to incorporate AI-generated videos and photos into the backgrounds of their YouTube Shorts. The potential here isn't just templated backgrounds but an innovative approach where existing content can be remixed using AI.

  • AI Content Guidance: With AI's ability to gauge trends and creator styles, YouTube Studio is set to offer video topic suggestions that are uniquely tailored to each creator.

  • AI-Enhanced Music Search: In a bid to match audio with video themes, an AI tool will recommend music tracks based on the description of a creator's video.

  • Multilingual Dubbing: Bringing inclusivity and global reach, YouTube's AI-powered dubbing feature, developed with assistance from the Aloud team, will empower creators to translate and dub their content into various languages.

Spotify just announced a similar feature for podcasts

The Broader Context: The pivot towards AI isn't sudden. The rise of affordable generative AI tools has changed the digital creation landscape. YouTube, backed by parent company Google's heavy investment in AI, has been subtly integrating AI features, including video summaries.

Implications for Creators: As AI offers insights and tools, creators might re-strategize the type of content they produce. The virality of AI-generated content, already evident, is anticipated to grow.

AI Content Labels: Reflecting a trend across platforms, YouTube might follow in the footsteps of platforms like TikTok, which have introduced markers to label AI-generated content, ensuring transparency.

Other Announcements: YouTube also introduced the "YouTube Create" app, simplifying the Shorts creation process.

✍🏼 As of 12:01 AM this morning, the WGA strike is over. This link covers the highlights of the deal, but here’s how things ended up with AI: writers can use AI as a tool if they like, but studios cannot use AI to write scripts.

What’s still fuzzy - whether studios can start training their own models on scripts written by union members. In an interview with Lucas Shaw on Recode, he said it seemed like a yes, studios could dabble with training models, but only as an experiment, not for publishing or going to production.
